Bucharest court cuts competition fine for telecom operator by EUR 11 mln

20 January 2016

The Bucharest Court of Appeal has reduced by over EUR 11 million the fine received by telecom operator Vodafone Romania from the Competition Council in February 2011.

The reduced penalty amounts to EUR 15.3 million.

The initial sanction totaled EUR 26.5 million, namely 3.45% of the company’s turnover in 2010. However, the court decided to cut the fine to 2% of Vodafone Romania's turnover in 2010, reports local Profit.ro.

The Competition Council can still challenge the decision at the High Court of Cassation and Justice.

In February 2011, the Competition Council fined Orange Romania and Vodafone Romania with EUR 63 million for abuse of dominant position on the mobile communications market.
