Five-star Crowne Plaza Bucharest brings new GM from competitor

Angelo Zuccala is the new general manager of Crowne Plaza hotel in Bucharest, replacing Franz Rattenstetter.  Zuccala was previously Executive Assistant Manager with five-star InterContinental hotel in Romania’s capital.

Both Crowne Plaza and InterContinental hotel are five-star units under the management of the IHG hotel group. The two units however have different local owners. George Copos' ANA Hotels owns Crowne Plaza, while  InterContinental is owned by Compania Hoteliera Intercontinental Romania SA, listed on the Bucharest Stock Exchange and controlled by investor Dan Adamescu.

Zuccala has over 19 years of experience in the hotel industry. He spent the last 12 years working within the InterContinental Hotels Group, specializing in sales, food & beverage and operations management.

He joined the group back in 2002 and held several managerial positions in the group’s units in Cannes, Egypt, Malta, Frankfurt and Bucharest. More about him on LinkedIn.

Rattenstetter had led Crowne Plaza in Bucharest for ten years, first between 2001 and 2007, and then between 2011 and 2015.

Crowne Plaza will complete this year the renovation of its 164 rooms, with a total investment of EUR 2.2 million. The hotel will also invest in revamping the fitness room and the pool. It plans further investments next year. Crowne Plaza Bucharest, opened in 1998, is located in northern Bucharest.
