Artworks displayed on billboards during the 2016 Bucharest Biennale for Contemporary Art

18 February 2016

The seventh edition of Bucharest's International Biennale for Contemporary Art comes with a unique concept that aims to bring art closer to the people.

For the first time, Bucharest Biennale chooses to exhibit the artworks on billboards and backlit billboards instead of museums and art galleries. The artworks will be displayed in 21 different places in Bucharest.

The event will take place between May 26 and June 30, 2016. Its curator will be Belgian researcher and critic, Niels Van Tomme.

“The <<What Are They Building Down There?>> curatorial concept developed by Niels Van Tomme gets powerful connotations by giving the idea of a new way to navigate the city, the works being placed in different urban areas, creating a route that invites people to discover Bucharest, not only to experience an art exhibition,” said Razvan Ion and Eugen Radescu, co-founders of Bucharest Biennale.

Each work will be exhibited for the first time during the 2016 edition of Bucharest International Biennial for Contemporary Art and will be adapted to the exhibition medium.

The billboards and backlit billboards used in this event are provided by Posterscope, an international company that specializes in outdoor, indoor, online, and print advertising. Find more information about the event here.
