Romanian Central Bank: Liquidity is sufficient, but unevenly distributed

01 April 2015

Some banks lack access to liquidity on the market, so they prefer to borrow from the Central Bank at the weekly auctions, said Mugur Isarescu, the Romanian National Bank governor.

The liquidity is sufficient but is unevenly distributed in the banking system.

Isarescu said that the Romanian banking system is robust in terms of solvency and liquidity, in the context of the Greek and Austrian situations, reports local Mediafax.

However, liquidity can diminish under tension and lack of trust, when there may be a market segmentation.

The Central Bank has paid increased attention to the situation in Greece and Austria. These represent the countries with the highest share of the capital investment in the Romanian banking system.
