Bucharest plans to buy 100 electric buses with EU funds

Bucharest’s General Council approved on Wednesday, June 20, the opportunity study for purchasing 100 electric buses with EU funds, News.ro reported. The municipality hopes to have the buses on the streets by the end of next year. The total value of this acquisition would amount to some EUR 220 million, EUR 186 million of which will be covered with EU funds, according to mayor Gabriela Firea. Bucharest will also buy 400 Euro 6 buses from Turkish group Otokar. Cluj-Napoca is the first city in Romania to introduce electric buses. The Bucharest City Hall announced the plan to buy 100 electric buses and set up 30 charging stations for electric vehicles in public parking lots since mid-2017.
