Minister: EUR 500 mln agricultural trade surplus in Romania

01 April 2015

Romania’s agriculture posted a trade surplus of EUR 500 million last year, said Agriculture Minister Daniel Constantin. In 2013, the country posted a EUR 300 million surplus.

In 2014, Romania managed to enter new markets outside the European Union, such as the Arab countries. Exports to such countries grew by 75%.

Last year, exports amounted to 4.9 million tonnes of wheat, whereas domestic consumption reached 3.5-4 million of tonnes.

“Our goal is to open new outlet markets and to offer farmers the possibility to sell at the best price. Prices were slightly below 2013,” Constantin said, cited by local Agerpres.

At an EU level, Romania ranked among first for wheat, corn, rapeseed and sunflower production.
