Romanian prime minister Dancila ready to “refresh” European Union project

22 March 2019

Romania’s prime minister Viorica Dancila, attending an event in Brussels, spoke of the “imbalances seen in recent years” that have led to the weakening of the population’s confidence in the European project.

The European project “needs a new impetus, and this is one of the priorities of the Romanian Presidency of the Council of the European Union,” Dancila stressed, according to local Ziarul Financiar.

She mentioned the migration generating xenophobia and Euroscepticism as well as fake news as the source of the weakening in popular support for the EU project. She also spoke of the European Union as a “guarantee for our democracy, security, peace, wealth and progress.”

“The European Union is the “guardian” of the European model of life, which, by its force of attraction, continues to represent, globally, the most valuable asset we have,” Dancila stated.
