Romania asks KazMunayGas to build chemical plant in Dobrogea

06 November 2014

The Romanian Government has asked KazMunayGas, the company which owns Romania’s oil and gas company Rompetrol, to build a chemical power plant in the Dobrogea region by using the USD 1 billion promised by the Kazakh company, said the Minister Delegate for Energy Răzvan Nicolescu, according to Ziarul Financiar.

The decision hasn’t been made yet, and, apart from the chemical plant, the state has also proposed investing in gas deposits. The money would come from a fund which the Government and KazMunayGas agreed to create, with 20%, respectively 80% ownership, that would invest some USD 1 billion over 7 years.

The Kazakh company previously proposed the Government to take over some of their already built gas stations, “but we have not accepted, and we will never accept such a thing. Maybe new gas stations,” said the minister.
