The number of mobile phone users in Romania rose by almost 1% last year reaching 23.1 million. The penetration rate of mobile phone services per 100 inhabitants thus exceeded 116% at the end of 2015.

More than half of them (12.5 million) used prepaid cards, according to the National Authority for Communications ANCOM. The number of subscription users went up by 8% to 10.7 million.

The total voice usage rose by 4% in 2015 compared to 2014, reaching 69.5 billion minutes.

The mobile phone users had international conversations totaling 3.7 billion minutes, 76% more than in 2014, and talked 14.9 billion minutes outside their networks, up by 64% year-on-year, after the termination rates were cut significantly.
