Romanian state-owned airline wants to buy luxury aircraft for business people

Romanian state-owned airline Tarom wants to buy a luxury aircraft with up to 10 seats that it would lease to business people and other premium clients. The company is currently in negotiations for this purchase, according to Tarom general manager Werner Wolff. The acquisition will likely be made through an operational leasing contract, he added. “We target the luxury segment. Business people as well as the Government and presidency will be able to lease the aircraft. It can also be used for medical emergencies as it can also carry people on stretchers,” Wolff explained, quoted by News.ro. This would be the first aircraft of this kind in Tarom’s fleet. Romanian billionaire Ion Tiriac also has a company that leases luxury aircraft to premium clients. Such an aircraft costs EUR 20-30 million and can travel at speeds of up to 900 kilometers per hour. Bombardier, Gulfstream, Embraer and Cessna produce such aircraft. Tarom currently has a fleet of 25 aircraft and recently signed acontract with Boeing to buy five new planes. The company also plans to change 13 small aircraft in its fleet that it uses mostly for domestic flights. The Tarom general manager also announced last week that the company will launch flights to Berlin from a Romanian airport, either Bucharest or Sibiu. The company also launched recently the Bucharest-Sibiu-Stuttgart route and plans to develop its routes to Germany, according to Wolff.
