Young Romanian sells personal stuff to go to Nepal as volunteer

05 May 2015

Romanian student Ionut Ursu, 25, wants to go to Nepal to help the victims of the recent big earthquake. In order to raise the necessary money, he has sold part of his personal stuff, such as his iPad and his laptop.

Ionut grew up in orphanages in Neamt, Romania, and his experience made him bond with the victims' sufferance, reports local Digi24.

He started working as a volunteer when he was 14. At first, he worked in a local hospital and then, in 2011, he became a volunteer at the Bucharest Ambulance service.

A businessman paid for his plane ticket, but he is now selling personal stuff to gather the money needed for the equipment.

“I sold my iPad, which is worth RON 900, and my RON 1,500 laptop. I sold them quickly, as well as a watch which is worth more than RON 1,000,” said Ionut, cited by Digi24.

He will stay two months in Nepal and plans to write a book about this experience.

The massive 7.8 earthquake in Nepal occurred in late-April and caused the death of over 7,000 people. At least twice as many people were injured.
