Report: Romanian media crisis worsens

05 May 2015

The Romanian media crisis deepened in 2014, according to a Centre for Independent Journalism (CJI) report.

Fear defined the sector last year, reads the report. Journalists fear they might not have a job tomorrow, or they won’t receive their salaries at the end of the month. They are also afraid of politicians and authorities, according to the report.

CJI published it last Sunday, May 3, on the World Press Freedom Day.

Money is becoming scarce for the media market and most advertising budgets go to central TV stations. Journalists also complain about the lack of money.

“The public considers that the media are deeply flawed and laments the lack of quality content, it sometimes condemns the deviations in the media, but it’s not willing to pay for content,” reads the report.
