Foreigners control most of Romania’s holdings

Most of Romania’s holdings are controlled by foreigners, recent statistics show. Romania has 44,500 holdings, 39,300 of which are multinationals, according to data valid as of 2013, and recently released by the National Statistics Institute (INS).

German, Dutch and Austrian investors control the biggest such holdings in Romania, based on the number of employees. German owners work with 15.6% of the employees in Romania’s holdings, followed by Dutch owners – 12.6% of the employees, and Austrians, 11.4%.

Number of employees – wise, Germans are more active in manufacturing, retail trade, and car repairing. Some 4.8% of holding employees work in manufacturing, for Dutch owners, while 2.8% of holding employees work for Austrian owners in mining.

Most of Romania’s holdings are active in trade, manufacturing, and construction. Local holdings, which make only 12% of the total, are more active in retail trade, car, and motorcycle repairing, manufacturing, professional and scientific activities, and constructions.
