Simona Halep starts 2017 on fourth place, three other Romanians in top 100 WTA

Romania has four representatives in the first 2017 WTA ranking of best women’s tennis players in the world, with Simona Halep being the highest-ranked Romanian player.

Halep is at number four in the WTA ranking, with 5,228 points. The other three Romanian tennis players in top 100 are Irina-Camelia Begu – 29th (1,531 points), Monica Niculescu – 38th (1,300 points), and Sorana Cirstea – 78th (787 points).

German Angelique Kerber is the best women’s tennis player in the world, followed by American Serena Williams on the second place, and Pole Agnieszka Radwanska on the third.

Simona Halep won three WTA titles in 2016, in Madrid, Bucharest, and Montreal, and already started 2017 with a 6-1, 3-6, 6-3 win over Jelena Jankovic in the first round of the Shenzhen Open.
