Romanian PM: This Government will not change the Fiscal Code!

Romanian Prime Minister Dacian Ciolos says his Government will not change the Fiscal Code. This means that he will not accept the Social Democratic Party’s request to postpone several tax cuts to be implemented on January 1, 2017. PSD leader Liviu Dragnea said on Tuesday that he talked to Dacian Ciolos about postponing the coming tax cuts, which were approved by the Parliament in 2015. These tax cuts would reduce the budget revenues by some EUR 1.6 billion next year. Dragnea suggested that Ciolos was open to his proposals, but the Prime Minister denies having accepted them. “I see that my telephone conversation with Liviu Dragnea caused some unrest,” Ciolos wrote on Facebook. He added that he didn’t agree to Dragnea’s proposal and only said he would analyze it. “The analysis is clear: this Government will not touch the Fiscal Code. Any decision of such amplitude needs to be made, if necessary, by the future Government, legitimated by the majority in the Parliament and the results of the Sunday elections,” Ciolos concluded. editor@romania-insider.com
