Romanian tennis star Simona Halep, who is currently first in the WTA ranking of the best women’s tennis players in the world, is close to signing a 4-year sponsorship deal with sports apparel manufacturer Nike.

Halep ended her collaboration with German group Adidas at the end of last year, after not reaching a renewal deal. Adidas didn’t want to increase Halep’s EUR 1 million per year contract despite her reaching the number one place.

Lacoste and Nike apparently approached her for a contract and Halep has decided to sign with the latter. The contract’s details are almost finalized and the Romanian may get EUR 700,000 per year more than from her previous sponsor, according to information obtained by local sports newspaper ProSport.
