Romania's Government allocates EUR 78 mln for local elections

11 February 2016

The Romanian Government has allocated RON 350 million (EUR 78 million) to organize the local elections that will take place on June 5, the Government’s spokesperson Dan Suciu announced yesterday.

The amount is larger than the one attributed to the previous elections, as the local authorities will no longer contribute financially to organizing the elections.

The members of the election commissions will receive RON 85 (EUR 19) per day, reports local Mediafax. They will supervise the elections.

The Government has recently introduced a new position, namely 180 technical operators who will introduce additional information such as the voters’ Personal Identification Numbers (CNP) into an IT system. The amount also includes the implementation costs of the IT system, which monitors the turnout and aims to prevent illegal voting.
