Survey: Residents of large Romanian cities support ridesharing services

A total of 87% of the respondents in a survey carried out in several large cities in Romania do not agree with the idea that local authorities could stop the Uber-type services. This is the same percentage of people who have heard of the this type of services. Only 11% of those surveyed agreed that authorities should stop the ride-sharing services. The survey was carried out in Brașov, Bucharest, Cluj-Napoca and Timișoara by the Romanian Institute for Evaluation and Strategy (IRES). At the same time, 77% believe that local authorities should allow apps such as Uber to run as before. Of those questioned, 90% said that their city would gain from having several transport alternatives, such as public transport, taxi, bicycles, or ridesharing services as an alternative to the personal car. Furthermore, 8 out of 10 respondents said they would support a law encouraging innovative services, while 57% declared themselves content with the experiences they had with taxi services so far. When asked what transport service they would chose, 51% picked the taxi, while 45% opted for Uber. The survey was carried out between March 8 and March 12 among 1,299 people aged 16 to 65.
