Private healthcare operator teams up with banker for EUR 15 mln hospital in Western Romania

The private healthcare operator Regina Maria will open a hospital in Cluj-Napoca, in Western Romania, with a EUR 15 million investment. The opening is planned for the first quarter of 2018. The Cluj-Napoca hospital is Regina Maria’s largest investment outside of Bucharest, and is carried out in a partnership with businessman Horia Ciorcilă, who is also the president of the administration board of Banca Transilvania. The new medical facility is set to be the city’s first private hospital offering integrated services and aims to cater to patients in neighboring counties as well. It will also be the city’s only large unit specializing in minimally invasive surgery, the company said. The four-storey hospital will have a 7,000 sqm area. It will have a maternity section, a 24/7 on-call room for both adults and children, a multi-disciplinary ambulatory section, and several medical specialty and surgical departments for adults and children. In preparation for the opening, the operator acquired this year in Cluj the ambulance and home care service Prompt URG and Santomar OncoDiagnostic, a pathological anatomy and cytology laboratory. Prompt URG has a fleet of 12 ambulances and a team of 6 doctors, 6 nurses and 21 ambulance personnel. Santomar OncoDiagnostic has a team of 18 specialist doctors. Regina Maria has been present in Cluj-Napoca for almost 10 years. It invested over EUR 9 million there to open and modernize medical units, to expand and to acquire modern medical equipment. Overall, Regina Maria Cluj has two polyclinics, two laboratories, one test center, one work medicine center, and one center offering expertise in diabetes, nutrition and metabolic diseases. It employs over 300 people locally. It has over 150 doctors on staff, covering 32 medical specialties. In 2016, it had 150,000 patients in the city. On the corporate segment, the operator had a portfolio of 30,000 subscriptions for employees in the area. “Cluj becomes for Regina Maria the new capital of healthcare. The city has always represented for us a strategic point in developing our network nationwide; it was the first city we expanded to at the beginning of 2008 and where, afterwards, we directed the largest investment budgets, after Bucharest. […] At the same time, we plan to bring here our expertise in receiving international accreditations for hospitals. Regina Maria already has two hospitals accredited by international bodies – American and European. It is the only [healthcare] provider in Romania with such wide experience in the area,” Fady Chreih, CEO of Regina Maria, said. Country-wide, Regina Maria has 39 locations, four hospitals, three day-care hospitalization centers, two maternity hospitals, eight medical campuses, 11 image centers, 20 test centers, its own stem cell bank, and over 180 partner polyclinics in the country. It has over 430,000 medical subscriptions in its portfolio. It has over 4,600 employees and collaborators. Regina Maria invests EUR 3.5 mln to equip modern medical test lab in Romania
