Local bank puts its name on Cluj sports venue for EUR 600,000

The Sala Polivalenta sports venue in Cluj-Napoca will get the name of the Cluj-based lender Banca Transilvania for five years, in exchange for EUR 600,000. The negotiations with the lender ended yesterday. The Cluj City Hall has approved the protocol providing that the bank will pay EUR 600,000 over five years. Companies interested to give a name to the sports hall were able submit their offers between September 1 and October 9, the sports venue’s director Ionut Rusu said yesterday. However, Banca Transilvania had the “only concrete offer.". “We will use the money to cover the extra costs of practicing sports in the venue and other expenses,” Rusu said. Banca Transilvania has also committed to invest RON 40 million (EUR 8.7 million) in the Cluj sports over the next five years. The venue was inaugurated in October 2014, following an investment of RON 70 million (EUR 15.2 million). It has hosted international sports events as well as music concerts so far.
