Romania's ruling party leader wants national commission for joining the euro

A National Commission in charge with drafting the plan for Romania to join the euro area in 2024 will be created, Liviu Dragnea, the leader of Romania’s ruling Social Democratic Party (PSD), announced on Monday, March 19.

The commission will include representatives from the Presidency, Government, Romanian Academy, interested parts in the civil society, other institutions and local authority associations. It is to be established by government decision this week.

The national commission should come up with an action plan for joining the euro, which should be approved by November 15. Starting January 2019, the measures included in the plan should be implemented.
