Two paintings by Romanian Adrian Ghenie sell for USD 2.7 mln at London auction

Two paintings by Romanian Adrian Ghenie were sold on Tuesday at Christie’s Post War & Contemporary Art Evening Auction in London, for a total of USD 2.7 million. The Hunter (Study for Kaiser Wilhelm Institute), a 2011 painting by Adrian Ghenie, sold for USD 2.2 million (GBP 1.8 million). The painting was estimated at USD 611,000 – 855,000 (GBP 500,000 – 700,000). Moreover, another Ghenie painting named Pie Fight Study was auctioned for almost USD 520,000 (GBP 425,000). The artwork, which was painted in 2014, had an estimated price of USD 366,600 – 611,000 (GBP 300,000 – 500,000). Two other paintings signed Adrian Ghenie will go on sale at Sotheby’s Contemporary Art Evening Auction organized in London today. One of the paintings is the 2011 Self-Portrait as Charles Darwin, which is estimated at GBP 2 million – 3 million (EUR 2.34 million – 3.51 million). Adrian Ghenie is one of the most appreciated young artists in the world. He has set a new personal record last year, after his painting Nickelodeon sold for USD 9 million at the Post-War & Contemporary Art Evening Auction organized by Christie’s in London.
