National Culture Day celebrated in Romania and abroad

Romania is getting ready to celebrate its National Culture Day on January 15 with several events organized in the country and abroad. Introduced in 2010, Romania’s National Culture Day is celebrated on January 15. This is the birth date of Romanian poet and novelist Mihai Eminescu, a canonical figure of Romanian literature and a representative of the local Romanticism. The Ion Dacian Operetta and Musical Theater will mark the occasion with a concert of arias and lieder from Romanian operettas. The concert, scheduled for January 15, will include pieces by de Ciprian Porumbescu, Tiberiu Brediceanu, Sabin Drăgoi, Eduard Caudella, Aurel Eliade, Alfred Alessandrescu, Gherase Dendrino, and Nicolae Bretan. The pieces will be performed by Bianca Ionescu-Ballo, Andrei Pleşca, Gabriela Daha, Marius Mitrofan, Amelia Antoniu, Bogdan Lupea, George Ionuţ Vîrban, and Valentino Tiron. Tickets can be purchased at startickets.ro. In New York, the Romanian Cultural Institute (ICR) presents on January 5 the recently published anthology Romanian Literature as World Literature. The anthology was put together by Mircea Martin, Christian Moraru, and Andrei Terian. In Tel Aviv, ICR will organize on January 11 an event dedicated to Mihai Eminescu, with public readings of his poems and other works. Several Israeli authors of Romanian origin will also launch their new volumes. They are Ada Shaulov Enghelberg, Adina Rosenkranz Herșcovici, Madeleine Davidsohn, and G.Mosari. The students of the Akadma Music School in Ashdod will deliver the music program of the evening.
