Medieval art festival takes over NE Romanian city

A large parade of medieval costumes took place on August 16 in Suceava, a city in northeastern Romania, as part of the Ştefan cel Mare Medieval Art Festival which is on until August 19. The parade went from the city to the Princely Fortress of Suceava, a place where the festival takes place, alongside the Bucovina Village Museums. Some 500 participants from Romania, Serbia, Ukraine, Hungary, Turkey and the Republic of Moldova are attending the event. They will entertain the public with medieval dances, fire shows, horse shows, pantomime, Comedia dell’Arte performances, theater and contests for children, and medieval music. In addition, the festival offers medieval gastronomy workshops, textile art, leather, carpentry and calligraphy workshops, among others. The program also includes a historical reenactment moment, that of Mihai Viteazul’s entrance in the Suceava Fortress in 1600. The program of the festival can be checked here. Suceava was the capital of the medieval Principality of Moldavia from 1388 to 1565. The Fortress of Suceava was recently refurbished, and is now the focus of the Museum of Bucovina's bid for this year’s DASA Award of the European Museum Academy.
