2016 edition of Bucharest’s Gaudeamus Book Fair attracts 125,000 visitors

The 23rd edition of Gaudeamus, the longest-running book fair in Romania, attracted 125,000 visitors this year, thus remaining one of the most important local events of this kind. The number is similar to the one registered by last year’s edition. The 2016 edition of the event, which took place at Romexpo in Bucharest between November 16 and November 20, gathered more than 300 participants, and hosted more than 850 events. The winners of the Gaudeamus trophies, according to the public’s vote, were Humanitas (first place), RAO (second place), and Nemira (third place) publishing houses. Meanwhile, the Harry Potter novel series by J.K. Rowling, was voted the wanted book. This year, the book fair’s guest of honor was China. With this participation, China became the first country outside Europe that attends a fair from this position. Next year’s edition of Gaudeamus Book Fair will also take place at Romexpo in Bucharest, from November 22 to November 26. The guest of honor of the 2017 edition will be the U.S. Radio Romania is the initiator and organizer of Gudeamus Book & Education Fair, organizing it every year at Romexpo. The most wanted book of the 2015 edition was The Lost Bible/Biblia Pierduta by Igor Bergler, which later became the best-selling fiction novel by a Romanian author in the last 20 years.
