EC allots EUR 265 mln for highway to Romania’s border

04 June 2018

The European Commission announced on Thursday, May 31, that it will finance with EUR 265 million the final section of the M4 highway in Hungary, which will connect Budapest to the Romanian border.

Once this section will be completed, the drive from Budapest to the Romanian border will take less than 2 hours and 40 minutes, according to a press release from the European Commission.

The new section will connect the towns of Berettyóújfalu and Nagykereki, reaching the Romanian border at Bors near Oradea.

This highway should connect to the Transylvania highway, which goes from the central Romania city of Brasov to Bors. However, this highway project has been long overdue and some of its section are partly done while others haven’t even been started yet.
