World Bank to give Romania EUR 200 mln for acquisition of cancer treatment equipment

The World Bank has put aside EUR 200 million for Romania’s radiotherapy network, and will finance the acquisition of medical devices needed for treating cancer, according to Mediafax. Access for patients to the national radiotherapy network is quite low, 30 to 35 percent, compared to the European average of 70 to 80 percent. The World Bank funding should cover the investments in the next two – three years. People suffering from cancer sometimes have to wait for three – four months before starting their radiotherapy treatments, because of the insufficient equipment, and the high number of patients. editor@romania-insider.com
