Wizz Air reaches 6.8 mln passengers in Romania

Hungarian low-cost airline Wizz Air, the leader of the air transport market in Romania in terms of traffic, carried some 6.8 million passengers to and from Romanian airports in 2017, 28% more compared to 2016.

The airline launched 17 new routes from Romania and expanded its bases in Cluj-Napoca and Craiova by adding two new aircraft to serve these bases last year. The company also hired 70 people, thus reaching 850 employees in Romania.

This year, Wizz Air will have 8.8 million tickets on sale for its Romanian routes, up 16% compared to 2017. The company will continue to expand its local operations by adding a new aircraft to the Bucharest base and launching new routes connecting the Romanian capital to Athens, Goteborg and Nice.

Last year, Wizz Air carried 3.1 million passengers to and from Bucharest, up 19% over 2016.

The airline will also add new planes to the Iasi and Sibiu bases and will reach 24 aircraft in Romania. Wizz Air currently operates flights on 143 routes from Romanian airports, including the domestic flight from Bucharest to Cluj-Napoca.
