What are the Romanians' fast food eating habits?

19 February 2015

Only 2% of Romanians have lunch in the city on a daily basis while some 20% go out to eat one to three times a week. Men are more likely to eat out than women.

Young and very young Romanians, aged between 15 and 24, have the habit of eating on the go more often, especially those in Bucharest and large cities.

Most Romanians prefer fast food restaurants that sell burgers, kebap (shawarma), fried chicken, and fries when it comes to “on the go” meals.

According to a recent GfK study, 50% of respondents purchased from such a place in the last four weeks.

Fast food restaurants are mainly frequented by men while women choose the pastry or pretzel shops. Most of the clients of these locations are between 25 and 34.

Pizza restaurants come next in the top, but they attract younger Romanians, aged between 18 and 24.

Mc’Donalds tops the list of fast-food restaurants frequented Romanians who buy food on the go. Next come KFC, shawarma places, pizza restaurants, Fornetti pastry shops, independent fast-food restaurants, coffee shops/snack-bars, Spring Time, Subway and Viva restaurants.
GfK conducted the study on a sample of 1,000 respondents aged over 15.
