Ursus Breweries opens mini-brewery, restaurant in Cluj- Napoca, Romania

07 July 2011

Brewing company Ursus Breweries has re-opened the beer factory in Cluj it had closed down, only to switch to a different concept, which entails offering the beer-making experience to the public. The smaller brewery will produce non-filtered beer, which will be available in this location and in several others in Cluj – Napoca. The location includes a bar, a restaurant and a terrace with a capacity of 300 seats.

In mid-November last year, Ursus Breweries announced it would shut down the brewery in Cluj-Napoca and let go its 150 workers. The company said the decision was triggered by the declining beer sales in Romania in recent years. The factory in Cluj was opened in 1878.

Ursus Breweries, part of the SABMiller group, produces and sells several beer brands: URSUS, Timisoreana, Ciucas, Peroni Nastro Azzurro, Grolsch, Azuga, Redd’s, Stejar, Pilsner Urquell and Miller.
