The unemployment rate fell by 0.22 percentage points in May compared to April, to 4.91 percent, according to the National Agency for Employment ANOFM. Over 444,600 people were unemployed in Romania in May, data shows.

When compared to the same month in 2013, the drop was of 0.12 percentage points in May this year.

In terms of gender, the unemployment rate in case of men decreased from 5.68 percent in April to 5.43 percent in May, while in the case of women, it dropped to 4.32 percent.

According to ANOFM, almost 45,000 of the unemployed people are aged under 25, over 34,900 are aged between 25 and 29, some 103,000 - between 30 and 39, over 129,600 - between 40 and 49, 63,700 are aged between 50 and 55, while 68,100 are aged over 55.

The highest levels of unemployment were recorded in Vaslui county (10.64 percent), Teleorman county (9.73 percent), Mehedinti county (9.62 percent), Dolj county (8.84 percent) and Galati county (8.44 percent).
