Uber wants to team up with Bucharest City Hall

29 September 2017

American ride sharing company Uber has proposed the Bucharest City Hall a data sharing partnership.

"Uber can help streamline traffic providing data on the busiest streets and intersections,” Mark Boris Andrijanic, Public Policy Associate for UBER CEE, said.

Uber has done so in other cities such as Washington, Boston or Bogota, he added. UberMOVEMENT is a platform developed by UBER through which the company offers local authorities and city planners access to anonymized data on traffic flows in cities.

The Uber representative has also mentioned the UberPOOL service, which allows two to five people to share a car to a common destination, or UberGREEN, the electric and hybrid car service. Uber will introduce these services in Bucharest by 2020, company officials said.

Andrijanic coordinates Uber’s efforts in Central and Eastern Europe to establish partnerships with governments and cities.

Uber entered the Romanian market in 2015 and quickly became very popular in Bucharest. Taxi drivers, however, have been asking the local authorities to ban the service, which they claim doesn’t comply with local transport regulations.
