Suceava wants to acquire 40 electric buses with EU funds

09 February 2017

Suceava, a city in northeastern Romania, wants to acquire 40 electric buses with some EUR 26.4 million.

The project will be implemented with EU funding, according to Suceava mayor Ion Lungu, reports local Mediafax.

The local authorities will apply for financing this fall, and will start the acquisition after the contract is signed. In the most optimistic scenario, the electric buses could be acquired in June 2018, at the earliest.

The total investment covers the price of the buses as well as the necessary infrastructure, namely parking places and halls. The Suceava mayor said that the maintenance of the electric buses will be provided by the local public transport firm.

The Suceava Local Council decided in November last year that the public transport company TPL Suceava will be the only one allowed to transport people in the city, in order to benefit from EU funds to acquire the 40 electric buses. Private operators were thus removed.
