US Air Force will increase presence in Romania

The US Air Force will increase its presence in Romania, general Tod D. Wolters, US Air Force Commander in Europe and Africa, said in a teleconference with journalists. “You can expect that the rotational presence with US Air Force troops will continue to increase in Romania as it has in recent years,” Wolters said, according to local Hotnews.ro. The general saluted the enhancement of Romania’s military capabilities through the acquisition of F-16 fighters and Patriot missile systems. He said the US Air Force had a very strong relation with Romania’s Air Force. Romania’s defense minister Mihai Fifor asked for a permanent US military presence at the Mihai Kogalniceanu military base in Eastern Romania. He said that Romania would contribute to the expansion of the military base. Thousands of Romanian and US troops have carried out military exercises at the Mihai Kogalniceanu base in recent years.
