Transylvania Open, the best tournament in the world in the WTA250 category in 2022, is returning to Cluj-Napoca on October 16-22, 2023. The matches will be played indoors on hardcourts at the BT Arena and will begin with two days of qualifiers on October 14.
In this third edition of the tournament, 16 players will compete in the qualifiers, 32 players will compete in singles, and 16 teams will compete in doubles. A total of 280 WTA points and prizes worth USD 259,000 will be at stake.
Several Romanian players have already announced their presence at the Transylvania Open. Sorana Cîrstea, ranked 36th in the world, will be playing in the tennis tournament in Cluj for the first time. Ana Bogdan (WTA ranking 61) and Jaqueline Cristian (WTA ranking 133) have also announced their participation in the tournament.
“We are more than happy to enjoy Transylvania Open again this year. We fought hard to keep this tournament in Cluj because initially, WTA officials announced the return of tournaments in China to the competition calendar. That would have ended the story of this competition, which has enjoyed great success both with the public and the players, who have designated us as the best WTA 250 tournament in the world,” said Patrick Ciorcilă, Transylvania Open WTA250 director, cited by ProTV. “All these appreciations have motivated us, and in the end, we managed to find a solution to continue. So, we are expecting Romanian tennis fans in large numbers in Cluj for the Transylvania Open on October 16-22. Especially since we have valuable players from our country who have already announced their participation in the tournament,” he added.
“In just three short years, the Transylvania Open has established itself as a favorite among players and tennis fans, and we are delighted to welcome it back to the Hologic WTA Tour in 2023. Being voted as the WTA 250 Tournament of the Year in 2022 was a testament to Cluj-Napoca's excellent organization and staff, all of which will be on display again this October to deliver a world-class tournament,” said Steve Simon, WTA chairman, and CEO.
Those who wish to attend the tennis tournament in Cluj can now purchase discounted one-day tickets, early-bird, on the entertix.ro website. These tickets provide access to all matches on that day, on both courts, and their cost ranges from RON 45 to 145 (EUR 9 to 29). Only tickets can be purchased during the early bird period. A total of 100 passes that will grant access to the tournament for the entire duration (October 16-22) will be available for sale in September after the early bird phase ends.
