Switzerland imposes quarantine on travelers arriving from Romania starting August 8

Switzerland has added Romania to the list of countries and areas with a high risk of COVID-19 infection. This means that all travelers going from Romania to Switzerland will be required to go into quarantine for ten days, starting August 8 at midnight, according to public information from the Swiss authorities.

All those entering Switzerland after visiting one of the countries on the high-risk list in the 14 previous 14 days have to report their arrival to the cantonal authority responsible within two days.

“Anyone who fails to comply with the quarantine requirement or the duty to report to the authorities is committing an offense under the Epidemics Act, which can be punished by a fine of up to CHF 10,000,” according to official information.

Moreover, a negative test result does not exempt travelers coming from high-risk countries from the mandatory quarantine requirement or shorten the quarantine period. A negative test result does not rule out an infection, according to the Swiss authorities.

Romania, Spain, and Luxembourg are currently the only EU countries Switzerland has included on the high-risk list. The list also includes Moldova, Serbia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro, as well as Israel, and the US, among others.
