Suceava, the first Romanian city where the local authorities want to introduce electric taxis

Suceava, a large city in the region of Moldova, in north-eastern Romania, may become the first city in Romania where the local authorities introduce electric taxis.

The city’s Local Council discussed in its end-February meeting about the auctions to grant the taxi licenses and the local authorities decided that half of these licenses should be for electric cars, local Libertatea reported.

Suceava has 28 charging stations, which were installed in a Swiss-funded project, and half of them are fast charging stations. The city’s 2019 budget also provides the necessary funds to install two ultra-fast charging stations, which will be located in the taxi stands.

The Suceava City Hall is already using 11 electric cars and 10 e-bikes for the Local Police, among others, and plans to buy 50 electric buses with EU money, deputy mayor Lucian Harsovschi said.

Arad, a city in western Romania, already has electric taxis on its streets after a cab company decided to add five such cars to its fleet two years ago.
