Spanish police arrest alleged leader of Romanian conga dine-and-ditchers

The Spanish Police have made a first arrest in a case in which they are investigating how a large group of Romanian diners managed to flee two restaurants without paying the bills of thousands of euros. The Spanish police have arrested a 48-year-old Romanian man believed to be the group leader, reports Thelocal.es. He was detained on Monday in the northwestern city of Ponferrada in the province of Leon, and will appear before court today, according to the Spanish Interior Ministry. Moreover, the police are now looking for a second Romanian suspect. The police started investigating this case after a group of 100 people left a restaurant in Spain at the end of February without paying the bill. They had been celebrating a baptism in the restaurant, and left the place dancing conga, according to media reports. It later emerged that another Spanish restaurant was also the scene of a similar heist in mid-February. In this case, the group that left without paying was made of some 200 people.
