Sources: Runaway Romanian investor Sebastian Ghita, seen in Serbia

Runaway Romanian investor Sebastian Ghita was located in Serbia three months after his disappearance, convergent sources close to the investigation told Hotnews.ro. Ghita was recently visited by two close collaborators from Romania, with whom he talked about new actions to compromise Laura Codruta Kovesi, the head of the National Anticorruption Directorate, according to the same sources. Sebastian Ghita counts on the good relations with the Serbian Prime Minister Alexander Vucic. Former Romanian Prime Minister Victor Ponta, who is a friend of Sebastian Ghita, continued to visit Vucic even after he wasn’t premier anymore. However, Ponta repeatedly said that he didn’t know where Ghita was hiding and that they hadn’t talked since his disappearance. Ghita is investigated for corruption in a case related to former British Prime Minister Tony Blair’s visit to Romania in 2012. Romania’s former Prime Minister Victor Ponta is also investigated in that case. On December 21, 2016, Ghita didn’t go to a hearing at the National Anticorruption Directorate – DNA’s office in Ploiesti sending his lawyers instead. The investor has been missing ever since. Meanwhile, his news television channel Romania TV has been broadcasting video recordings in which Ghita was making serious allegations about DNA chief prosecutor Laura Codruta Kovesi and former Romanian Intelligence Service (SRI) deputy director Florian Coldea. Coldea resigned in February following Ghita’s allegations. At the same time, DNA started another case against Ghita, accusing him of taking tens of millions of RON from local IT companies to help them get contracts from the Government and state-owned companies by using his political connections.
