Sibiu will officially receive the European Region of Gastronomy 2019 title next week

Romania’s beautiful region of Sibiu will officially receive the European Region of Gastronomy 2019 title from the International Institute of Gastronomy, Culture, Art and Tourism on January 25, in Athens. This is the last step in getting the title, after submitting the application in July 2016 and the international jury’s visit in September. “The award ceremony will be preceded on January 24 by the ceremony of transmitting the Region of Gastronomy title from the regions who held it in 2016 (Minho – Portugal and Catalonia – Spain) to the ones that will hold it in 2017: Aarhus (Denmark), Riga-Gauja (Latvia), and East Lombardy (Italy),” reads a statement from Sibiu County Tourism Association, cited by local Agerpres. The European Region of Gastronomy award aims to contribute to better quality of life in European regions, by highlighting distinctive food cultures, educating for better health and sustainability and stimulating gastronomic innovation. IGCAT (International Institute of Gastronomy, Culture, Arts and Tourism) organizes the award with the support of European institutions.
