Romania’s railways company takes passengers to Istanbul, Sofia and Thessaloniki starting early-June

Romania’s railways passenger carrier CFR Calatori will take passengers to Istanbul, Sofia, and Thessaloniki starting early-June this year, as it will participate in the formation of the Bosporus Express train, alongside railway carriers in Turkey and Bulgaria. The Romanian company will participate with a sleeping car for Istanbul, a passenger wagon for Sofia, and sleeping cars for Thessaloniki, according to CFR general manager Iosif Szentes, reports local Agerpres. Moreover, CFR Calatori also plans to add special wagons for the passengers’ cars to the international train. “We’re still working on the tariffs, but I can’t say anything until we have the tariffs established depending on the expenses,” said Szentes. Iosif Szentes previously said that CFR Calatori was planning to introduce special wagons that would carry the passengers’ cars, which would be done by attaching these wagons to international trains. CFR Calatori registered a profit of RON 32.8 million (EUR 7.3 million) in 2016, and carried more than 52 million passengers. Irina Popescu, irina.popescu@romania-insider.com
