Sixty Romanians working at meat processing plant in Scotland, infected with coronavirus

Sixty Romanians working for a meat processing company in Perthshire, Scotland, have been confirmed with the new coronavirus, the Romanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MAE) announced on Thursday, August 27.

In this context, the factory was closed on August 17, MAE also said, Hotnews.ro reported. All the employees were placed in self-isolation for 14 days and received support from both the local authorities and the employer.

“The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, through the Consulate General of Romania in Edinburgh, took action following information published by local media about the positive testing for COVID-19 of people working for a meat processing company in Perthshire, the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, and has immediately taken steps […] to obtain additional information on the citizenship, identity and health status of those affected,” MAE said in a press release.

“Following the actions of the representatives of the Consulate General of Romania in Edinburgh, the local authorities said that Romanian citizens, employed directly or through employment companies, work in the respective company, and 60 of them tested positive for the SARS-CoV-2 virus,” the Romanian ministry added.
