Romanian tennis player suspended for life for match-fixing

Romanian tennis player Alexandru-Daniel Carpen has admitted to fixing tennis matches and has thus been banned from tennis for life, reports BBC. A Tennis Integrity Unit investigation found that, back in October 2013, the Romanian made a corrupt approach to another player. He admitted the charge in 2015, but he only found out now about the extent of his ban. The tennis player said that he finds the decision unfair, and considers challenging it. "It's a strong shock. I have not sold, not bought, I have not thrown any match. I have not ever won any money from a bet," Carpen told local Digi Sport. Alexandru-Daniel Carpen, 30, achieved a career high singles ranking in November 2007, when he was at number 1,008. In the doubles ranking, his best rank was 274 in August 2015, according to data posted on ATP World Tour. The last event the Romanian played was the Sibiu Open tournament in September 2015.
