Over 130,000 Romanian high school students set to begin Baccalaureate exams

Over 130,000 high school graduates in Romania have registered to take the national Baccalaureate exam in the June-July session, which begins Monday, June 26, with the Romanian Language and Literature test.

The written exams for the first session of the 2023 Baccalaureate will take place from June 26 to June 29 in 464 centers. The schedule for the written exams is as follows:

• Monday - Romanian Language and Literature
• Tuesday - Mandatory subject based on the profile (Mathematics and History)
• Wednesday - Profile and specialization elective subject (candidates can choose one of the 10 subjects based on their field of study, profile, and specialization: Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Economics, Philosophy, Geography, Informatics, Logic, Argumentation, and Communication, Sociology, and Psychology)
• Thursday - Mother tongue exam for students from all fields of study, profiles, and specializations who have completed their high school studies in a minority language.

The exams start at 9:00 AM, and students are allowed to enter the examination rooms until 8:30 AM, upon presenting a valid identification document.

“The candidates have three hours to write their papers or complete the tasks, starting from the moment when the examination papers are distributed in the examination room. Candidates who have been granted an extension request by the county commissions, in accordance with the Procedure for ensuring equal opportunities for students with visual impairments, hearing impairments, and neurodevelopmental disorders, can benefit from an extension of up to two hours," read a statement from the Ministry of Education cited by G4Media.

Students who sit the written Baccalaureate exams must use only blue ink or a ballpoint pen to write their answers and only black pencils for diagrams and drawings. For the written exams in Mathematics and Geography, candidates may only use drawing instruments.

The provided exam papers must be used exclusively during the exams. It is prohibited to bring backpacks, bags, purses, or any electronic devices such as memory sticks, phones, or tablets into the examination rooms. Candidates are also not allowed to bring textbooks, dictionaries, notes, or any other materials that could be used for answering questions or communicating inside or outside the examination room. They are also prohibited from communicating with each other. Those who do not abide by the rules will be disqualified from the exam.

The initial results will be posted on July 3, by 12:00 PM, at the examination centers and online at Bacalaureat.edu.ro. Candidates can submit appeals during the same day, between 12:00 PM and 6:00 PM, including through electronic means.
