Romanian air traffic controllers to go on general strike next week

Employees of Romania's Air Traffic Services Administration – ROMATSA will go on general strike on May 30 for an unlimited period, Gabriel Tudorache, the leader of the Romanian Air Traffic Services Union (ATSR), said yesterday. Union leaders said that they sent countless memoirs, including to the Presidency, to report problems in the system caused by bad management. Air traffic controllers started a two-hour warning strike on May 12. They said that they would continue negotiations to find solutions to about 50 requests and to conclude the collective labor agreement in order to avoid a general strike. ROMATSA is under the authority of the Transport Ministry but has the status of an autonomous institution, which is self-financed and is of national importance. It owns the monopoly of air traffic services. ROMATSA’s employees are among the best-paid in Romania. editor@romania-insider.com
