Romanian president Klaus Iohannis has signed the law that makes Good Friday, the Friday before Orthodox Easter, a legal day off. Romanians will thus have a four-day mini holiday as the first and second day of Easter are also legal days off: April 6 to 9 (Friday to Monday). Orthodox Easter will be celebrated on Sunday, April 8 this year. The Parliament passed this bill in record time at the beginning of this year. The bill was initiated by Hungarian minority MPs who argue that Good Friday is a legal day off in 16 of the 28 EU countries. Romania has thus reached 15 legal holidays throughout the year.
