Romania wins first place at European Geography Olympiad

Two teams of students, one comprising seniors and the other juniors, managed to secure first place in the country ranking at the European Geography Olympiad for Romania.

The Romanian teams obtained four gold medals, three silver medals, and one bronze medal, according to the Ministry of Education.

"Romania placed first in the country ranking at the European Geography Olympiad! Our country was represented by two teams, seniors and juniors, each consisting of 4 students, all of whom won medals. The Romanian team brings home four gold medals, three silver medals, and one bronze medal," announced the Ministry of Education on Friday on its Facebook page.

The senior team consisted of: Alex Topai - "Onisifor Ghibu" National College Oradea - gold medal and the highest score, coordinated by professor Camelia Timotei; Mihai Alexandru Bratu - "Tudor Vladimirescu" National College Târgu Jiu - gold medal, coordinated by professor Vasile Zaharia; Svenja Alexia Papirowski - "Gheorghe Lazăr" National College Bucharest - silver medal, coordinated by professor Dorina Nedelea; David Mihai Dumitrescu - "Carol I" National College Craiova - silver medal, coordinated by professor Maria Ciobanu.

The junior team consisted of: Ștefan Cristian Drăguț - "Tudor Vianu" National Informatics College Bucharest - gold medal and the highest score, coordinated by professor Diana Petculescu; Iustin Balan - "Garabet Ibraileanu" National College Iași - gold medal, coordinated by professor Bogdan Dumitrașcu; Cosmin Ioan Dulgheru - "Gheorghe Roșca Codreanu" National College Bârlad - silver medal, coordinated by professor Cristina Oprea; Paul Ioan Țiplic - "Gheorghe Lazăr" National College Sibiu - bronze medal, coordinated by professor Ana Marinescu.

The team coordinators were Mihaela Florin Alexandru, inspector at the Ministry of Education, and Cornelia Mihaela Fiscutean, professor at the Iași National College.
