Romania, the EU country with the highest rate of fatal work accidents

Romania had the highest rate of fatal accidents at work in the European Union, in 2014, three times the EU average, according to data published yesterday by EU’s statistical office Eurostat. In 2014, Romania recorded a rate of 7.1 fatal labor accidents per 100,000 workers. It was followed by Latvia (6), Lithuania (5.6), and Bulgaria (5.4). The lowest rates of fatal accidents at work were recorded in the Netherlands, with one fatal accident per one hundred thousand workers, followed by Greece (1.2), Finland (1.2 - in 2013), Germany (1.4), Sweden (1.5), the United Kingdom (1.6). The EU average was 2.3 fatal accidents per 100,000 workers in 2014, according to Eurostat. editor@romania-insider.com
