PM: Romania preoccupied with Brexit referendum result

Romania is preoccupied by the Brexit referendum that may decide Britain’s exit from the European Union, just like all the other EU member states. Great Britain’s potential exit from the EU would result in serious problems in the way Europe functions and the economic impact of such a decision is difficult to assess, said Romanian Prime Minister Dacian Ciolos in an interview with French newspaper Le Monde. Ciolos said he was optimistic about the outcome of the referendum on June 23. “The Brits will decide what is best for them and I’m sure they will do so in a rational way, taking into account what they stand to lose in this perspective,” Ciolos said. However, he added that, regardless of the outcome, the European project needed to be modernized and rebuilt. He added that an approach was needed in which all the EU members should be heard, otherwise risking to have a Europe with several levels and several engines. editor@romania-insider.com
