NGOs demand halt to car traffic in Bucharest’s Băneasa Forest

Update: Romanian NGOs Agent Green and Eco-Civica Foundation said they filed a criminal complaint with the country’s anti-corruption prosecutors (DNA), seeking to block what they describe as the illegal car traffic through Băneasa Forest on the outskirts of Bucharest.

The two groups allege that a 2024 toll contract signed between the Ilfov Forestry Directorate (Romsilva) and Greenfield Băneasa Foundation unlawfully opened a forest road to car traffic. They argue the deal amounts to multiple criminal offenses, including abuse of office, embezzlement, fraudulent management, falsification of documents, violations of forestry laws, and breaches of environmental protection regulations.
